What happened to Jannik Sinner? Doctor speaks out on'Azure

Jannik Sinner raised the white flag after only 23 minutes in the Cincinnati Masters 1000 final against Carlos Alcaraz. The Blue, down 0-5, called for the doctor at the changeover but was unable to continue the match.

Told at the microphones of L’Adnkronos Salute, Physiatrist physician Andrea Bernetti, secretary general of SIMFER (Italian Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine), explained the malaise that affected the world number one during the final.

“Sinner appeared to be visibly in physical distress from the very first exchanges” he stressed -The reason for the ailment is “probably to be attributed to the great fatigue accumulated in the previous days also associated with the sometimes prohibitive weather conditions”.

“In fact, Sinner was coming to this final after a challenging run in the tournament, and the weather conditions on the court, with often stifling heat, may have played a crucial role, considering also the time of the final. The combination of physical stress and high temperatures is a known risk factor for athletes” Bernetti concluded.
