Darren Cahill shed light on Jannik Sinner’s condition after the Cincinnati final lost by withdrawal to Carlos Alcaraz. Interviewed by ESPN, the coach explained, “Jannik had a virus. Last night he was a little better, today he will still rest. We hope he can return to practice on Thursday. We are confident that he will recover soon”.

The world number one has therefore given himself 48 hours away from rackets and balls to recharge his energy ahead of the main goal of this stage of the season: the US Open.

In the meantime, Sinner is already in New York, where he indulged in a stroll in Manhattan together with athletic trainer Umberto Ferrara and sparring partner Nicolò Inserra, an image that immediately made the rounds on social media. The worst is behind him and the program toward Flushing Meadows can resume.

In addition to the top of the ranking to defend against Alcaraz’s assaults, Sinner also has to deal with some institutional commitments. On Thursday, August 21, the U.S. Open draws are scheduled in New York, an event he is not obliged to attend, but his presence would be a clear sign of recovery.
