Jasmine Paolini gets off to strong start and overcomes first hurdle at Us Open

Everything easy or almost easy for Jasmine Paolini who folded 6-2 7-6 (4) Destanee Aiava in her Us Open 2025 debut: “It was a good match. She plays good tennis and had already had three matches. She is a player who really likes fast courts, even in Australia she had played well, and I knew she could be a dangerous round. Also, it is always difficult to play the first round in a Slam, there is more tension and you still have to get into a rhythm and get familiar with the conditions”.
“I was surprised by her power, she has really heavy strokes, especially with the long backhand. I struggled at first, but I am glad I stayed there in the important points; I think that was the key to the match”.
“More than the tennis, I am happy with the way I handled certain important moments in the match. I stayed positive all the time, and I think that was the most important aspect of the day.”
Paolini does not yet know who her next opponent will be: “Sasnovich or Jovic, I know both of them. With Jovic I played in Indian Wells this year, she is a young player on the rise and, in my opinion, she has really good potential. I haven’t trained with Sasnovich for a while but I know her. An idea of the opponents I already have but definitely the match has to be seen and prepared”.
