Big finish for Italy in the Diamond League finals at Zurich’s Letzigrund: Andy Diaz won in the men’s triple, Larissa Iapichino in the women’s long. Diaz, an Olympic bronze medalist in Paris and world and European indoor gold medalists in Nanjing and Apeldoorn, respectively, won the triple with a spectacular 17.56.

Beaten some of his most dangerous rivals ahead of the World Championships in Tokyo: from Portugal&#8217s Pedro Pichardo, who had momentarily undermined him in the lead with 17.47 after Diaz&#8217s initial 17.31 and was then overtaken, to Algeria&#8217s Yasser Triki (17.42), to Jamaica&#8217s Jordan Scott (17.16). For Fabrizio Donato’s student it is the third Diamond League Champion title after those of 2022 and 2023.

Iapichino, European indoor women’s long jump champion, gets her hands on the trophy thanks to a 6.93 jump (-1.1) on her third attempt, a measurement with which she undermines Germany’s Malaika Mihambo (6.81), who, however, places a 6.92 on her last jump that puts a scare into the Florentine but does not undermine her from first place. Third was France’s Hillary Kpatcha (6.75).

Marco Fassinotti was fifth in the men’s high jump with 2.19 cleared on the first attempt. In the women&#8217s 1500 another good performance for Marta Zenoni, tenth with 4’00″71. Finally seventh in 55″77 Ayomide Folorunso in the women&#8217s 400 hurdles.
