US Open, Jasmine Paolini beaten by Markéta Vondroušová

Jasmine Paolini, world No. 8, was beaten with a score of 7-6 6-1 in the third round of the US Open women’s singles by Czech Markéta Vondroušová, who is currently No. 60 but was Wimbledon champion in 2023 and No. 6 in the same year.
The two protagonists never lose serve throughout the first set and the only one who had to cancel break points was Vondroušová, one in the second game and one in the fourth. The tie-break always sees the Czech ahead: 2-0 and then 4-1, 6-2 and finally 7-4.
Unfortunately, Paolini gives up the serve in the fourth game at 2-1 for her opponent who from 1-1 flies to 4-1 and in a very long sixth game that lasted 22 points misses five balls for a second break, the first two consecutive, cancels four for the game for Jasmine and finally, at the sixth break ball, breaks the Tuscan by closing the match immediately afterwards with service at her disposal.
Thus ends the tournament for Paolini, who will lose ranking points since she reached the round of 16 last year. Instead, Vondroušová defeated Russian-Kazakh Elena Rybakina, who swept Britain’s Emma Raducanu, a 2021 triumphant player at Flushing Meadows, 6-1 6-2.
