When Jannik Sinner plays at the U.S. Open: background with Aleksander Bublik

Jannik Sinner and Aleksander Bublik will face each other in the round of 16 of the US Open in a challenge that for the South Tyrolean outfielder may turn out to be even less obvious than expected. On the path to the quarters, where one between Jaume Munar and compatriot Lorenzo Musetti would await him, there’s in fact an opponent who is no stranger to giving him unexpected trips.
The two will face off against each other in the quarterfinals.
The two will meet at Flushing Meadows’Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing Meadows, the traditional home of the US Open, late in the Italian evening on Monday, Sept. 1. In fact, very late: to be precise, in our country it will have already clicked off on Tuesday, Sept. 2, as the match between Sinner and Bublik will not start until 1 a.m.
.
Sinner comes to the clash with Bublik on the strength of an uneventful path so far on New York soil. Since the start of the U.S. Open 2025, in fact, he has surrendered only one set to Denis Shapovalov in the match played on Saturday. The previous time he lost one was still when he gave it up to Carlos Alcaraz in the historic Wimbledon final.
Beware, however, of direct clashes with Bublik, often not an easy customer for Sinner. This is evidenced by the fact that on the last three occasions when the San Candido outfielder has faced him, twice a defeat has come. Curiously, it happened in both cases in Halle: in 2023 the Italian surrendered after losing the first set, in 2025 it was a 2-0 defeat. Again this year, at the French Open, it was instead a clear 3-0 victory for the South Tyrolean, who also prevailed in Dubai and Miami in 2021 and in Hertogenbosch in 2023 (the last two without conceding a single set to his rival).
