Eurobasket: a stellar Doncic shatters Italy's dreams

Italy bowed to a stratospheric Luka Doncic and was forced to say goodbye to the European Basketball Championships in the round of 16, defeated by Slovenia 84-77. Pozzecco’s Azzurri after a shock start made a great comeback in the last quarter, but the Lakers star in the final seconds closed out the game, framing a record-breaking game with 42 points and 10 rebounds.
Doncic is having a great day and the impact was devastating for ours, who found themselves down 29-11 after the first quarter, sunk by the NBA star’s 20 points from the NBA star, who was unstoppable. Italy had a reaction in the second quarter, triggered by an excellent Fontecchio, and closed at halftime down by 10 points.
Pozzecco’s team suffered in the third quarter, where it slipped back to -16, but it was the protagonist of an almost miraculous comeback in the last fraction of the game: Niang, Gallinari, Fontecchio, Melli and a great heart allowed the national team to bring itself back up to -1 with just over a minute to go before the buzzer. Then Doncic came back on, whose last four points, all from free throws, finally sealed the game.
Italy’s top scorers were Fontecchio (22 points), Niang (12) and Gallinari (10).
