Italy bowed to a stratospheric Luka Doncic and was forced to say goodbye to the European Basketball Championships in the round of 16, defeated by Slovenia 84-77. Pozzecco’s Azzurri after a shock start made a great comeback in the last quarter, but the Lakers star in the final seconds closed out the game, framing a record-breaking game with 42 points and 10 rebounds.

Doncic is having a great day and the impact was devastating for ours, who found themselves down 29-11 after the first quarter, sunk by the NBA star&#8217s 20 points from the NBA star, who was unstoppable. Italy had a reaction in the second quarter, triggered by an excellent Fontecchio, and closed at halftime down by 10 points.

Pozzecco&#8217s team suffered in the third quarter, where it slipped back to -16, but it was the protagonist of an almost miraculous comeback in the last fraction of the game: Niang, Gallinari, Fontecchio, Melli and a great heart allowed the national team to bring itself back up to -1 with just over a minute to go before the buzzer. Then Doncic came back on, whose last four points, all from free throws, finally sealed the game.

Italy&#8217s top scorers were Fontecchio (22 points), Niang (12) and Gallinari (10).
