Italbasket knockout, Gianmarco Pozzecco tearfully announces goodbye
The head coach of the Italian national basketball team Gianmarco Pozzecco has announced his’farewell to the Azzurri bench after the defeat against Slovenia and elimination from the European Championships. “Congratulations to Slovenia, they played a great game. Doncic was great, but not only him. Congratulations also to my boys who never gave up playing until the end, as they always did”.
“This is my last game with the national team, by my own decision– explained Pozzecco, who was expiring his contract -I want to thank Petrucci who gave me this honor, it was the best moment of my life. I also thank Salvatore Trainotti, my staff and my players. I love each one of them”.
“I don’t give a damn what kind of coach I am, I don’t focus on my career, I don’t care what you think of me. I am only focused on them, and today I am very sad because I see them suffering, not because I lost. As I said in the locker room, no one will love them as much as me” he said visibly moved.
In the press conference there was also Melli, who greeted the coach this way: “The Poz brought back the joy of seeing each other again in the group even during the summer, he created rituals and a very strong bond.
