Julio Velasco in ecstasy: "Even better than the Olympics"

The head coach of the Italian national women’s volleyball team Julio Velasco to the FIPAV microphones confessed all his excitement for the rainbow triumph, which came the’year after the Olympic gold medal.

“I wanted autonomous and authoritative girls, and I have a group that has done great things. This victory gave me greater emotions than the Olympics, because this was a long, difficult competition, and full of pitfalls. That is why it tastes different and beautiful”.

“These girls worked with great dedication and played with courage even when we were struggling. These are values that mean so much and I think this group deserved to win like this. Then a thought to my staff, from the medical staff to the technical staff: exceptional men and women who contributed to this triumph. Barbolini, Cichello, scoutman Taglioli, team manager Marcello Capucchio, all an integral part of this triumph”.
