Gaia Giovannini was one of the unexpected stars of Italy&#8217s historic final against Turkey at the Volleyball World Cup. The 23-year-old player from San Giovanni in Persiceto (Bologna) was instrumental in the fifth set with her turn at bat, and she played the last two sets of the match as a starter.

“For me it is the dream of a lifetime. It is crazy, I am glad that I was able to play this match because it is an incredible satisfaction. The dedication is to us as a team because we are crazy and to my family” said the Italian women’s spiker after the rainbow triumph.

Gaia Giovannini is in her first career rainbow tournament and has made her mark immediately. A player for Megabox Vallefoglia, she has been on the national team roster since 2024, and with the Azzurri group before the World Cup she had already won two Nations Leagues and the gold medal at the Paris Olympics. She made her professional debut in 2019 for Montale, and has also worn the jerseys of Cuneo and Novara throughout her career.

Despite her young age, she already plays like an experienced veteran, and she is destined to take on an even more important role in the coming years in the blue.
