World Cup 2026: a goal at 94' gives Tunisia qualification

Thanks to their success at home against Equatorial Guinea, which came thanks to Mohamed Ben Romdhane’s goal in 94′, Tunisia is punching its ticket to the World Cup 2026, as it can no longer be joined by rivals in Group H of the African confederation’s qualifiers. The Tunisians are the second national team from the CAF zone to qualify, after Morocco.
In the standings, in fact, Tunisia is up to 22 points, while the closest national team, Namibia, has collected just 12 with three games to play. Namibia itself will be competing with Liberia (11 points and one more game), Malawi and Equatorial Guinea (10 points, also with one more game) for a chance to finish in second place and possibly be among the four best second-place finishers, who will play for an additional World Cup berth in the playoff.
The country’s second-place finish will be in the top four of the World Cup.
For Tunisia, this will be the seventh overall participation in the final phase of the World Cup: in the previous six, played in the 1978, 1998, 2002, 2006, 2018 and 2022 editions, the Eagles of Carthage have never made it past the group stage. However, their absolute debut in the competition, on June 2, 1978 in Rosario, Argentina, ended in a 3-1 win over Mexico.
In the 2022 edition in Qatar, Tunisia was placed in Group D with France, Australia and Denmark: after the 0-0 draw with the Danes and the 0-1 loss suffered against the Australians, came a surprising 1-0 win over France (defending champions and finalists of that same World Cup edition), with Khazri’s goal at 58′, useless, however, to get past the round.
