“The ball is not in his court now, he has to improve something in order to beat me. I have to be ready to see what he will do. I think that is the beauty of this rivalry. We are both improving. We push each other to the limit and every time, after every match, we know what to improve. It is great and I expect Jannik will change something to try to beat me next time. I will be ready”.
“I feel I am at my best so far, but I have room for improvement. I have not yet reached 100 percent and I am working to do that. At 22 I think it is complicated to be the best version of yourself. I have things to improve, the best Carlos has yet to emerge. I like to enjoy life, it’s true. Who doesn’t enjoy it? Who hasn’t enjoyed being 22 years old? It’s about spending quality time at home, it’s about getting motivated for tournaments.
“It is hard for me not to play in the Davis Cup. I am very sorry, but I went through a demanding tour, both physically and mentally, with so many matches. I don’t have the time to come home and prepare as best I can. It would be selfish, because there are other players who can do better than me. I need to rest to face the rest of the season and mentally assimilate everything I have accomplished”.
