Ducati, Pecco Bagnaia can’t take it anymore: "You can’t race like this"

Pecco Bagnaia in Misano did not go beyond the thirteenth place in a Sprint Race to forget, the’umpteenth of a season that for him is confirmed every week more and more disastrous. The three-time world champion, eighth in qualifying, ended the race without picking up any points and not taking advantage of teammate Marc Marquez’s crash. And now that even the third position in the MotoGP rider standings is put at risk by the rise of Marco Bezzecchi, triumphant Saturday Romagnolo, the’attack on Ducati becomes more direct.
“I don“t have much to say. Except that I want to go back to the pits, analyze what is going on and figure it out. Because I did not understand today what happened – Bagnaia complained at the end of the day, intercepted by ‘Sky Sport’ -The fact that it happened in Misano is not more serious, because situations like that are serious everywhere. It is not possible to run a second and a half slower than each of the other rounds of the weekend”.
Regarding the atavistic problems with the 2025 Desmosedici, Bagnaia confirmed that these are the usual ones (braking and tire management, particularly the rear). Compared to what has already happened in recent weeks, particularly Balaton Park and Montmeló, however, the situation of his Ducati seems if possible even worse. “Today it was big things”, the Piedmontese centaur let slip.
For these reasons, too, Bagnaia would not make any predictions about the San Marino Grand Prix proper, scheduled for Sunday. No indication, either positive or negative, except for a consideration that is worth more than any analysis: “If the bike will work well, I will be in front. If it behaves as it did today, I won’t be able to. But we have to understand why this happens, because today racing was a real frustration”.
Bagnaia’s crisis did not in fact begin today: already in Montmelò, in Catalonia, the Turin-based rider had experienced a nightmarish weekend, even finishing 21st in qualifying, last among the classified riders. A result that commented itself and anticipated the current difficulties. Even in the Catalan free practice, the three-time world champion had shown worrying signs, finishing second-to-last in FP1.
The tension between Bagnaia and Ducati had already emerged clearly after the Grand Prix d’Austria, when the Piedmontese rider had lost patience publicly: “I hope to receive explanations, I am losing patience. At the moment Ducati is not telling me anything, I am waiting” he had told DAZN Spain. The response of general manager Gigi Dall’Igna had not been long in coming: “It is normal that Bagnaia is disappointed. Perhaps there’s also a psychological aspect, when things start to go wrong, everything ends up going wrong”.
The contrast with the performance of teammate Marc Marquez is jarring: the Spaniard in recent weeks had put together an impressive string of 15 consecutive Sprint Race and Grand Prix wins, dominating the championship until today’s crash in Misano. The gap in the standings between the two factory Ducati riders is now 250 points in favor of Marquez, a distance that testifies to how difficult the season is for Bagnaia.
