Serie B: Pohjanpalo drags Palermo, draw between Empoli and Spezia

The third day of Serie B ended with a draw between Empoli and Spezia at ‘Castellani’. The Aquilotti’s lead with Salvatore Esposito on a penalty kick was answered by Popov for the Azzurri early in the second half. The Tuscans climb to 4 points in the standings, in the play-off zone, while the Ligurians move to 2, in the play-out zone.

In the afternoon, Palermo’s external success with Sudtirol: at the Druso in Bolzano, the Rosanero won 2-0 thanks to a super Joel Pohjanpalo, who unblocked the match after only two minutes with a header and closed it out ten minutes from the end on a counterattack. Thanks to this victory, Palermo flies to the top of the standings on 7 points, along with Modena and Cesena, while the Biancorossi remain stationary at 4.

Finally, opening the day was the first joy of the season for Virtus Entella, which narrowly beat Mantova thanks to Tiritiello’s decisive goal after just seven minutes. The biancocelesti rise to 5 points in the standings, in the middle of the play-off zone, while the Lombardi remain at 3, just outside the play-out zone.
