Elisabetta Cocciaretto, thrilling comeback: Italy ahead 1-0 with China

Italy got off to a good start in the Billie Jean King Cup quarterfinal against China. In the first singles, Elisabetta Cocciaretto defeated Yuan Yue with a score of 4-6 7-5 7-5.
L’Azzurra took a big risk in a nearly three-hour match in which she found herself down 5-2 (and two points from defeat) in the second, and then 4-0 and 5-2 again in the deciding set.
“It’s amazing to play in front of a special audience like this, I knew it would be tough, there was tension and she was playing at home. Thanks to my team and my captain, I was able to come back and fight until the last ball, and it is a great feeling to have succeeded twice in the 2nd and 3rd set” commented Cocciaretto warmly.
“I knew it was going to be tough and that the conditions would be difficult because we were facing the hosts. And so I told myself to try to spin the match, thinking only about the match and strategy, forgetting about the result and focusing only on’being aggressive and trying to play my game”.
