The ways of the soccer market are confirmed to be endless: 31-year-old Benjamin Mendy is officially a player of Pogon Szczecin. The 2018 World Cup winner has signed a one-year contract with the Polish club, with an option for a second season.

Previously, the Longjumeau native played for Lorient, then in Switzerland at Zurich, where he failed to convince his coach, who panned him without half-measures after a few games. “He did not give what was expected of a player of his level. His fitness level is not up to what is expected to participate in our league” explained Ricardo Moniz to Le Matin.

He is the second world champion to join the Polish league after Lukas Podolski, who has been playing for Górnik Zabrze since 2021. The left-back, who has played for Le Havre, OM and Monaco, reunites with another former Ligue 1 player, captain Kamil Grosicki, who played for Rennes (2014-2017).

The left-back has played for Le Havre, OM and Monaco.

Last season, Benjamin Mendy&#8217s new team finished fourth in the Ekstraklasa, Poland&#8217s top league, but did not qualify for any European competition-a disappointment because they participated in the first three editions of the Europa Conference League between 2021 and 2024.
