Who is Edon Zhegrova, the Kosovar who took on Juventus in ten minutes

Surprise entry in the 87th minute of Juve-Borussia Dortmund, when until a few days before he even seemed to be at risk of being called up, Edon Zhegrova managed in just ten minutes to win over the Juventus fans. In fact, his acceleration triggered the goal of the final 4-4 in the 96th minute: first the assist to Vlahovic after a dribble, then the pass for Kelly’s goal, thus signing two key moments of the match in a very short time.

A release also for Zhegrova himself, who after a season marked by pubalgia is still looking for the best form. The faster-than-expected physical progress convinced Igor Tudor to call him up not to make up the numbers, but as a card to play if the game called for it – and it did.

It could be the same again tomorrow against Verona, with Zhegrova ready to come in for a longer match segment. Even with Yildiz needing to rest, it is unlikely to see him as a starter right away, a risk Tudor seems unwilling to take. For the Kosovar, however, returning to see the field consistently after difficult months is already a victory. The rest will be a whole season to play, with the goal of regaining continuity and incisiveness, just like against Dortmund.
