Jose Mourinho’s Benfica wastes a'golden opportunity

Benfica, now owned by Jose Mourinho, stumbles again in front of its home crowd and wastes an important opportunity to climb up the standings. After the away win against AVS, the hosts stalled at 1-1 against a far from irresistible Rio Ave.

And to say that everything seemed to be going right. In the 86th minute, Lukebakio breaks through on the right and serves a golden ball to Sudakov. The Ukrainian kicked from the center of the area, finding a decisive deflection by Petrasso that cleared Miszta for the 1-0 lead.

The ending, however, is bitter. In the midst of recovery, André Luiz receives wide on the right, gets back on the left side and signs a great roundabout goal that mocks Trubin and fixes the result at 1-1.

With this draw, Benfica remains stuck on 14 points, behind Sporting (15) and increasingly distant from top-seeded Porto, which leads with full points with 18 points.
