Matteo Franzoso, the'last farewell with mom Olga’s touching speech

FISI

The entire world of winter sports joined the Franzoso family for the last farewell to Matteo, held at the church of Sant’Edoardo in Sestriere (To).

Relatives, friends, athletes of today and yesterday, and fellow soldiers of the Guardia di Finanza to which the unfortunate Italian downhill skier belonged huddled around mom Olga, dad Marcello and brother Michele, in the presence of Minister of Sport and Youth Andrea Abodi, Minister of Economy and Finance Giancarlo Giorgetti, CONI President Luciano Buonfiglio and FISI President Flavio Roda.

The coffin reached Sauze di Cesana, where Matteo was buried at the cemetery of the ancient church of San Restituto.

Mom Olga’s words were touching: “As a child you dreamed of the Olympics and you were almost reaching that dream, but know that you and your brother are our heroes: with your efforts you have already won the Olympics. Your dad and I are immensely proud of you and your brother, of you. Keep skiing my love, they are waiting for you in heaven. Thank you Matte for who you are, little big man, I hope so much that this death of yours can serve to live this beautiful sport with more confidence”.
