Paola Egonu, captain’s words and message to Lautaro Martinez

A new beginning for Paola Egonu and Numia Vero Volley Milano. At the official presentation the Azzurra outfielder spoke for the first time as captain to the microphones of Sportal.it: “It doesn’t change much to be captain but obviously I have to get used to it. It is an honor, it means that the club believes in me”.
Reduced from a busy summer with the national team jersey, the opposite player admitted natural fatigue after the World Cup, but stressed the desire to start again: “We are at a new chapter: it is normal to feel some fatigue, but there is a lot of energy and a lot of desire to start a new season”.
Inevitable comparison with the “battleship” Conegliano, which has dominated the scene in recent years. Egonu, however, prefers not to look too much at the opponents: “It is difficult to answer whether Conegliano is unbeatable. We have to focus on ourselves and build something important day by day.”
The Azzurra also sent a message to the younger generation, linking the national team’s summer successes to an investment for the future: “I hope that the results obtained can be a driving force for the new generations. The boys and girls must believe that with commitment and passion one can go far.”
Finally, a hint of a special meeting that may be coming soon: that with Lautaro Martínez, striker of Inter, a team of which she is a fan. “It will be arranged,” she recounted with a smile. “I have so much to learn from him”.
