Farewell to Claudio Polloni, forerunner of 3-point shooting

A new bereavement for the basketball world. Claudio Polloni passed away after a long illness.He was 69 years old and was also known for his deadly long-distance shot, in an era when the 3-point ‘bomb’ did not yet exist.

With Pallacanestro Vigevano he was a star in the A2 series in the 1982-83 and 1983-84 seasons. To the annals some outstanding performances, such as the one against Udine, a team in which the phenomenal Drazen Dalipagic, who left us in January was playing: in that game the American Eagle won 95-91 at the Carducci, with 40 points scored by Polloni and 36 by Smith.

After the fruitful experience in Vigevano, Polloni played in the A1 series with Honky Fabriano, then returned to Lombardy wearing the jerseys of Desio, Monza and Gorla Maggiore.

When his playing career ended and he had a brief stint as a coach, he devoted himself to teaching physical education in high schools in Rho, his hometown.
