He would have been 96 years old on October 1: Carlo Sassi, RAI sports journalist and inventor of the moviola in Italy, has died. A historical face on Domenica Sportiva and later a regular guest on Quelli che il calcio, Sassi was the first to introduce television analysis in Italy, revolutionizing football debate in the Bel Paese.

At Domenica Sportiva since 1960, the Milanese journalist on October 22, 1967 analyzed Gianni Rivera’s phantom goal in the derby between Inter and Milan for the first time with television images.

Sassi together with Bruno Pizzul edited the first historic moviola column, in which he commented on episodes by listening to the players’ opinions. For 30 years on Domenica Sportiva, Sassi was a regular guest of Fabio Fazio and Marino Bartoletti on Quelli che il calcio from 1993 to 2001.
