When Jannik Sinner plays in Beijing: background with De Minaur

After a two-set victory over Fabian Maroszan (6-1 7-5), Jannik Sinner is preparing for the semifinals of the Beijing ATP 500. The number one seed and two in the world will face Alex De Minaur, number 3 in the seeding and 8 in the ATP rankings, who beat Jakub Mensik in the quarterfinals.

The match between the Blue and the Australian is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 30, no earlier than 8 a.m. Italian time (2 p.m. local time) on the ‘Capital Group Diamond’ of the ‘Beijing Olympic Green Tennis Center’. Opening the center court program will be Coco Gauff and Belinda Bencic, on court at 05:00 a.m. Italian time (11:00 a.m. local time).

There are 10 previous meetings between Sinner and De Minaur, who has never managed to defeat the South Tyrolean: the most recent was in the quarterfinals of the last Australian Open with a clear victory for the world number two (6-3 6-2 6-1). Jannik won one more time in Melbourne: in the round of 16 in 2022, again in three sets.

Sinner has beaten De Minaur one’other time on outdoor concrete’in the final at the Toronto Masters 1000 in 2023– and as many as six times on indoor concrete: twice in the Davis Cup, in the final in 2023 and in the semifinals in 2024, in the final at the 2019 Next Gen ATP Finals, in the quarterfinals of the 2020 ATP 250 Sofia, in the final at the 2024 ATP 500 Rotterdam and in the round of the 2024 ATP Finals. Finally, the Azure also boasts a success with the Australian on clay: in the second round of the Madrid 2022 Masters 1000.
