Shanghai Masters 1000: Luca Nardi and Mattia Bellucci smile, Matteo Berrettini does not

Terminates after nearly two hours of play Matteo Berrettini’s adventure at the Shanghai Masters 1000 in China. The Roman tennis player struggled hard against Adrian Mannarino, who, however, found the decisive blows at the right time, winning 7-5, 7-6(5). Berrettini’s bad moment continues, as he has won only once in his last five matches, against Jaume Munar in Tokyo.
On the other hand, Luca Nardi and Mattia Bellucci are smiling, advancing to the second round: the former defeated, not without difficulty at the start, Austrian Sebastian Ofner, number 137 in the rankings, regaining a set disadvantage and closing on 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. The second, however, beat 7-6(6), 6-1 Australian Adam Walton, thirteen places behind him in the world rankings (Bellucci number 64, Walton number 77).
Nardi will face the tournament’s number 32 seed, Frenchman Giovanni Mpteshi Perricard, in the second round, while Bellucci will face the number 20 seed, Czech Tomas Machac. Both of the Azzurri’s opponents were able to skip the first round thanks to the ‘bye’ guaranteed to them by the’organization of the Chinese tournament.
Penultimate ATP Masters 1000 of the year (the ’last one will be played in Paris-Bercy), the Shanghai tournament has been held since 2009.
The first winner was Nikolay Davydenko, executioner in the final of Rafa Nadal (curiously, never winner of the tournament despite two finals played). The defending champion, winner in 2024, is Jannik Sinner, who will take the stage in the second round against Germany’s Daniel Altmaier.
