Commenting in front of reporters on his Bologna’s 1-1 draw against Freiburg, Vincenzo Italiano explained in particular a move that surprised fans and insiders alike, the change that took Riccardo Orsolini off the field (author of the momentary 1-0 on 29′ then equalized by Adamu on a penalty kick on 59′), who at 66′ left his place to Federico Bernardeschi.

The team was forced to make a change in the first half of the season, but the change was not the only one.

“Compared to other occasions, today we had to sacrifice him – said the coach of the Bologna club -. Just before 70′ I preferred to insert fresh forces: if we had had the game in the bag maybe I would have made different choices, because this kind of evaluation changes from game to game, but at that moment it was right so”.

“Orsolini was decisive in the final even not playing great, in other games – added Italiano– but today the dynamic was different and led me to make a different choice. I am happy with Bernardeschi, when he grows further in condition he will give us great satisfaction and important shots, I am sure”.

For Bologna that won against Freiburg is the first European point of this season: the Rossoblù, who had lost 1-0 on the first day at home to Aston Villa, will play on Oct. 23 in Romania against FCSB, on Nov. 6 at home with Brann, on Nov. 27 against Salzburg in Bologna, on Dec. 11 in Vigo against Celta, on Jan. 22, 2026 at home against Celtic, and on the 29th on the neutral in Backa Topola (in Serbia) against Maccabi Tel Aviv.
