Marc Marquez vs. Valentino Rossi: Jorge Lorenzo shuts down debate.
Marc Marquez has equaled Valentino Rossi for number of titles won, but according to Jorge Lorenzo the Catalan rider has already surpassed the Doctor in a virtual ranking of the strongest MotoGP centaurs ever. In an interview with the Duralavita podcast, the Majorcan centaur now has no more doubts: “In my opinion, Marc Márquez is already the best rider in history, and I explain it”.
“Marc has always beaten his teammate. There’s been no teammate who has surpassed him. This has not been the case with Valentino Rossi. In some years his teammate has beaten him. For example, Maverick Viñales“.
According to Lorenzo, the comparison with Giacomo Agostini, on the other hand, is not possible: “Thirty or forty’years ago, there was a much wider gap between the best and the least performing bikes. You could race in more categories, now racing is much more intense and much more competitive, so it is difficult to compare eras”
“I think Marc is technically the best, the most complete. In my opinion without that crash in Jerez he would have won many more World Championships, only bad luck didn”t allow him to do that, and moreover riding an inferior bike”.
“I was very surprised by Marc’s caution and riding in Japan. I have practically never seen Marc ride like that. Not even when he was fighting for the title with me the first year, in 2013, he rode like that and so cautiously”, Lorenzo concluded.
