Novak Djokovic winks at Jannik Sinner
There are several insights given by Novak Djokovic in his chat with reporters in Shanghai on the eve of his second-round match in the Chinese Masters 1000 against Marin Cilic. In the Serb’s words shines through his intention to go as far as possible, perhaps to meet Jannik Sinner: the two could find themselves, advancing in the draw, in the semifinals.
“It would be great to have the chance to meet Jannik again on the court – Nole said at the press conference -, especially because it would mean that I made it to the semifinals. Djokovic went on to say that he is aware that he has to give over one hundred percent in order to beat the new generation phenoms, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz: “There’s the physical aspect, which definitely matters: if you are not at your best, you are already half a step behind. That is what I tried to explain in New York, playing a whole tournament over the distance of five sets leads me to arrive to play against them much more tired: this definitely affects my game. It”s a biological issue though, I can”t help but accept it.
Novak Djokovic will return to the court in Shanghai almost a month after his last match, the U.S. Open semifinal he lost 6-4, 7-6(4), 6-2 to Carlos Alcaraz, then the winner of the tournament after winning the final against Jannik Sinner. Currently, the Serb is fourth in the ATP rankings, but he needs to reach at least the semifinals to avoid losing any more points.
