WTA Wuhan, qualifying: Lucia Bronzetti smiles, Elisabetta Cocciaretto does not

It’s one win and one loss the balance for Italian tennis in Saturday’s matches valid for the first qualifying round for the main draw of the Wuhan WTA tournament: Lucia Bronzetti in fact overcame her first opponent, China’s Tian Fangran, while Elisabetta Cocciaretto had to surrender to Croatia’s Antonia Ruzic, thus having to abandon her ambition of qualifying to the main draw.
Bronzetti’s success, despite the 6-4, 6-2 final, was not easy: the world number 465 in fact held out for almost two hours, starting immediately with a break and fighting point to point especially in the first set, a very tight fraction in which Bronzetti had to give all her energy to prevail.
Great battle also in the second fraction, very balanced up to 3-2 for the Italian player, who then asserted in the final the 392 positions of difference in the ranking (the Romagnola is number 73 in the world rankings) and at the third match point on 5-2 she closed a challenge that turned out to be more complicated than could have been expected on the eve.
Cocciaretto’s match against Ruzic lasted less, eighty-one minutes, and was resolved without any major worries for the Croatian, who suffered only in the very first bars (2-0 for the Marche player after two games) and then won twelve games, leaving only two more to the Italian. For Elisabetta Cocciaretto it is the second missed main draw in China, after the one in Beijing.
