Atp at work after Jannik Sinner and colleagues'alert

The hot situation at the Shanghai Masters 1000 is unsustainable and is causing major problems for players. Over the past few days, numerous athletes have publicly expressed concern about the playing conditions, and many have been injured.
This is the case, for example, of Jannik Sinner, who was forced to retire during his match with Tallon Griekspoor. The match was played in over 30 degrees and extremely high humidity.
Following the alarm raised by Sinner and his teammates, the Atp is working to find a solution to the heat problem since it is not only in Shanghai that sicknesses have been reported. The ‘heat rule’ is being studied: a rule could be included whereby an Atp supervisor, in consultation with a medical team and local authorities, can decide to suspend a match when certain conditions occur.
This rule is already in the Wta Rulebook: “Suspension of play will be defined when the heat stress index (WBGT) reaches or exceeds 32.2 degrees Celsius or when the heat index (apparent temperature) reaches or exceeds 40.1 degrees Celsius”.
