Valentin Vacherot unstoppable in Shanghai: folded Rune, is in semifinals

The fairytale of Valentin Vacherot at the Shanghai Masters 1000 continues. The Monegasque, world No. 204, also beat Holger Rune, No. 10 in the seedings and No. 11 in the ATP rankings, in the quarterfinal match of the ‘Rolex Shanghai Masters’.

After eliminating the likes of Tomas Machac and Tallon Griekspoor, as well as Italy&#8217s Mattia Bellucci, Vacherot eliminated another top seed. The Monegasque qualifier overcame the Dane in a comeback (2-6 7-6 6-4) after a three-hour battle.

Losing the first set sharply, Vacherot had the strength to overturn the’outcome of the match, imposing himself 7 points to 4 in the tie-break of the second set and then completing the task in the third set, closed 6-4 thanks to the break obtained in the fateful seventh game.

Thanks to this victory, Vacherot has secured his entry into the top 100 in the ATP ranking starting next week. But the Monegasque does not want to stop here: in the semifinals he awaits the winner of the match between Novak Djokovic and Zizou Bergs.
