After the false start against Tortona, Olimpia Milano finds the first two points of its championship by overcoming Varese Basketball in Masnago in an authoritarian way: 94-61 the score in favor of the Red Shoes, which despite not being able to count on Zach LeDay found 20 points from Brooks, 13 from Brown, 12 from Ellis and 11 from Bolmaro.

Olimpia coach Ettore Messina spoke after the game about LeDay’s condition specifically, without hiding: “He has an adductor muscle problem. He will be out in all at least two or three weeks – he said -. If it depended on him he would play in three days. He has heart and always wants to help the team but we will have to be careful. For sure he will spend this week in Milan”.

LeDay’s stop aside, Messina wants to enjoy a success that ends a string of three losses in a row between the league and Euroleague: “I honestly think it was a good game – he said – against a team that was coming off a good win on a tough court like Sassari. We defended well on their shooters: we knew that if Librizzi, Alviti, Nkamhoua started by shooting well then the game would be difficult”.

“We came here, we opened the court both with Shavon Shields from 4 and when we used Ricci in a traditional set-up. We ran it, we did it well, with construct so I am happy with that. I think we defended hard forcing them to take bad shots and from that defensive work we drew sap to run on the counterattack. This is important, it is positive, although it must then be translated to a higher level” concluded Messina.
