Italy, new bitter outburst by Gian Piero Ventura: "The biggest fake news"
The former coach of the Italian national team Gian Piero Ventura has returned to talk about the Azzurri’s shocking elimination against Sweden in the 2018 World Cup playoff. Among the most memorable images of the terrible evening is that of Daniele De Rossi who seemed to refuse to enter the field. “Everything was invented there, it’s the biggest fake news in the last 50 years of Italian national team football”, Ventura thundered to RAI microphones.
“I was not letting De Rossi in, it is the biggest fake news of the last years of the national team. It was athletic trainer Alessandro Innocenti who asked him to warm up: it would be enough to call him and ask him to confirm it too”, Ventura continued, speaking about the episode.
“The trainer in turn was trying to get the players up to keep them warm if needed. This is something made up out of whole cloth. I did not see that scene, I only saw it when it was replayed to me a few days later so this is a fake that is unbelievable. This is confirmation that everything that could be spilled negative was being spilled at that time”.
Ventura’s sentences were later confirmed by De Rossi himself, who put a like under the post published on Instagram by Rai.
