Paola Egonu challenges Conegliano in Trieste for the Super Cup

A great classic of Italian and international volleyball is ready to light up the capital of Friuli Venezia Giulia. The spotlight will be on PalaTrieste, which will host a Women’s Volleyball League event again on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 5:30 p.m. (live coverage by Rai 2 and VBTV): after the Italian Cup Final Four in February 2024, the Friulian facility will be the scene of the Fineco 2025 Super Cup. Competing for the title will be Numia Vero Volley Milan and Prosecco Doc A. Carraro Imoco Conegliano, which will face each other in the competition for the third consecutive year. The event, officially presented at the Municipal Council Hall in Trieste, in addition to the institutional speeches that opened the morning, saw the participation of Eleonora Lo Bianco, patroness of the event, and the protagonists of both teams – captains Egonu and Wolosz and coaches Lavarini and Santarelli – who told their feelings on the eve of the match.
After the recent confrontation at the beginning of the season in the Courmayeur Cup, Egonu and her teammates return to challenge the champions of Italy to try to interrupt the Gialloblu supremacy in the competition, with the Panthers winning the title in the last seven editions. Six of the rainbow champions will take the court on the taraflex of a sold-out PalaTrieste – Paola Egonu, Anna Danesi, Eleonora Fersino and Benedetta Sartori for Milan, Sarah Fahr and Monica De Gennaro for Conegliano – who will add to the atmosphere of a match that promises to be spectacular.
Stefano Lavarini, coach of Numia Vero Volley Milano, spoke on the eve of the match: “Against Conegliano everything resets: teams, emotions are renewed and we start again with new ambitions. Tomorrow’s match will be neither easy nor difficult, it will be something new, and we will face it with the desire to play a trophy. The Fineco Super Cup comes at the early stage of the season after a long summer with national teams, and with little time to achieve our own stability. Taking the field for such an important trophy is an accelerator for us, it stimulates us to give more and more, because when you play for a title like this everyone wants to do well. We are here to play it 100%: this new edition awaits us in a beautiful setting and we are motivated to give our best”.
Paola Egonu, captain Numia Vero Volley Milano, echoed him: “Being captain represents growth on a personal level: I have always been a reserved athlete, so I will have a new vision, no longer individual but on the team. I thank the club for this opportunity and for the trust; in these first weeks it has been wonderful working with my teammates and staff, especially the way they have accepted this new role of mine. Tomorrow’s will be an open game; we are a new team that still has to find its system and synergy. We are playing against Conegliano who is, on the other hand, a well-trodden team, with players of the highest level who have known each other for years. I hope we will take the court calmly and have fun”.
