Sky Up The Edit, kicks off the fourth edition

Today marks the start of the fourth edition of Sky Up The Edit, Sky’s educational project that this year will give students between the ages of 8 and 18 the chance to try their hand at creating multimedia content on the theme of Respect. The goal is to promote digital inclusion in schools, and in the first three years more than 22,200 girls and boys and more than 1,200 classes throughout Italy have participated in the initiative. Registration is now open for primary and secondary schools.

The new edition was presented today during Sky TG24 Live In Rome in the presence of the Minister for Sport and Youth Andrea Abodi, as part of a panel moderated by Sarah Varetto, Executive Vice President Communications, Inclusion and Bigger Picture of Sky Italia, which also involved multiple Olympic medalist and World Champion in Rhythmic Gymnastics Alessia Maurelli and Lisa Offside, Content Creator and Sky Sport talent.

The topic chosen for this year is Respect, understood as caring for oneself, others and the environment. Students will be asked to interpret the theme by choosing between two different perspectives: telling about respect in the digital world, addressing topics such as cyberbullying, the problem of fake news, the proper use of social media and online piracy; or delving into “The Values of Sports,” including fair play, inclusivity, physical and mental well-being.

Minister for Sport and Youth, Andrea Abodi, says, “We believed in the Sky Up The Edit project from the very beginning, which is why we did not just put a simple signature on the protocol, but began to fully implement it, trying to be present at the events taking place in schools because talking with boys and girls, shortening distances and starting from listening, establishing a relationship and responding, is a valuable contribution to my daily action. This fourth edition dedicated to the theme of Respect, the Treccani word of the year, presupposes the common ability to interpret it, live it and affirm its absolute value. I am convinced that, together with the students who will participate in these meetings, we will have a way to commit ourselves to consolidate the affirmation and find new ways to fully implement it.”

Sarah Varetto, Executive Vice President Communications, Inclusion and Bigger Picture at Sky Italia, comments, “Sky Up The Edit is a project that continues to grow, year after year, like the girls and boys who participate. Inspired by the values of sports – commitment, fair play, collaboration and team spirit – it promotes the importance for younger people to learn how to use digital tools. The theme chosen this year is Respect, the key to building a more peaceful future and a more just society. In this way we give students the opportunity to tell these values with creativity and passion but also with critical sense.”

Among the new features of this edition is also the type of multimedia content to be created. Classes, which with this project will dress in the shoes of a small newsroom, will have to choose whether to try their hand at creating a news report or a full-fledged awareness campaign that emotionally engages the public and stimulates awareness and change. The length of the content may vary from 120 to 150 seconds, thus offering more room for in-depth analysis and creativity.

For the implementation of the project, students will have access to a wide selection of educational and in-depth materials available on the dedicated portal. These include a lot of original content signed Sky TG24 and Sky Sport: reports, interviews and documentaries on the world of sports and information – also starring Sky talent and journalists – which will offer girls and boys useful insights to develop and articulate their projects.

And with Sky Up The Edit also returns Sky Up Academy Studios, the experience dedicated to classes III, IV and V of secondary schools and which last year involved 2,000 girls and boys. The classes will be able to experience a unique day directly in Sky’s Milan Santa Giulia TV studios and get hands-on experience with the most innovative technologies for creating original multimedia content at the Milan headquarters. In addition, it will be the perfect opportunity to discover what are the key figures that animate a tech & media company, also with a view to orientation to the world of work.

Sky Up The Edit can once again count on the collaboration with Adobe, which with Adobe Express for Education – the all-in-one AI creativity app that simplifies the development of creative skills – will enable students to easily work on developing their own digital projects, while acquiring new digital skills that will be invaluable for their future.

To find out all the details about Sky Up The Edit you can visit www.skyup.sky. Teachers can register their classes starting today and will have until April 16, 2026 to submit multimedia content. The projects will be evaluated by a panel of experts in communication techniques, who will select the three best, one for each school grade. Schools in the winning classes will receive five thousand euros in educational materials and have the opportunity to see their work broadcast on Sky channels.
