Unbelievable twist in the Superpole Race in Jerez, the last round of the Superbike World Championship. On the first lap Nicolò Bulega knocked out Toprak Razgatlioglu, in the race that should have sanctioned the Turkish rider’s World Championship triumph, who was instead forced to retire.

The Ducati rider, sanctioned with a long lap penalty for irresponsible driving, still managed to win the race, overwhelmed by booing at the finish line. Completing the podium were Alvaro Bautista and Andrea Iannone for a Ducati hat trick.

Fourth place for Xavi Vierge riding a Honda, ahead of Alex Lowes’ bimota. Sixth place for the Yamaha of Andrea Locatelli. Also in the points were Iker Lecuona (Honda) and Michael Van der Mark with the only BMW at the finish line.

Thanks to this victory Bulega shortens in the standings on Razgatlioglu, now 22 points distant in the standings. The title will therefore be played out in Race 2 with the Turk still in a clear lead, however: if Bulega also wins, it will be enough for him to finish 13th to become world champion.
