Bruno Vespa attacks Jannik Sinner but misses two names

It turned into a real boomerang Bruno Vespa’s social attack on Jannik Sinner. The Rai journalist, rediscovered as a tennis expert, badly misspelled the surname of the world’s No. 1 racket player, Carlos Alcaraz, whom he called ‘Alvarez’.

“Why would an Italian root for him – the Abruzzese man wondered -? He speaks German (right, it’s his native language), he resides in Monte Carlo, he refuses to play for the national team. Kudos to Alvarez who is playing the Davis Cup with his Spain”.

Vespa’s blunder sparked a series of criticisms: they were added to those for the concept expressed after the South Tyrolean decided not to participate in the Davis Cup Final-8. The kermesse that will be staged in Bologna in November has lost one of the most anticipated players.

Someone else also pointed out to Vespa that Monte Carlo is a resort in the province of Lucca while when talking about the capital of the Principality of Monaco the correct name is Monte Carlo.
