Jannik Sinner dumbs down those who believed in miracle

Sorry but firm. It didn’t take long in Vienna for Jannik Sinner to make clear the air he was in and to remove the slightest illusion from those who – very few to tell the truth – thought he might announce that he had changed his mind on the Davis Cup forfeit issue.
The world No. 2 spoke after hitting the hapless German Daniel Altmaier, who was scrambled in two sets (6-0 6-2) in not even an hour of play: yet another record broken by the South Tyrolean ace, who made the Teutonic party in front of his new flame, Mick Schumacher’s ex-girlfriend, the pleasing Laila Hasanovic, to mom and dad, who came to the Austrian capital from home to support their son.
“All I can say is that I accept all the criticism, I have already said everything on this issue and I have nothing to add” cut Jannik short, already with his head to the next match.
A peculiar Wednesday thus went into the archives without further jolt: it had been opened by an irritated Bruno Vespa with Sinner, who clamorously misspelled the surname of the world number 1, Carlos Alcaraz, whom he referred to as ‘Alvarez’.
