Elia Viviani, post-career already taking shape: comes an'important confirmation

Although close to ending his professional cycling career, Elia Viviani has no intention of leaving the world of two wheels. On the contrary, on Friday, Viviani received the necessary support at the level of votes to confirm his role within the International Cycling Union’s Athletes Commission regarding track again for the 2025-2029 term.
The Verona-based sprinter, elected along with New Zealand’s Ally Wollaston, received 113 votes, representing 38.2 percent of the vote. Not elected, however, were Dutchman Harrie Lavreysen (103 votes, 34.8 percent) and Venezuelan Clever José Martínez Moros (80 votes, 27 percent). The participation rate in the elections was close to 90 percent; the term will end with the 2029 UCI Congress.
The president of Federciclismo, Cordiano Dagnoni, greeted the news with great happiness: “A great satisfaction, which adds to the gold won by the girls’ pursuit yesterday – he said. –Elia is a prominent figure in the Italian sports scene. His expertise and experience are an added value for the UCI”.
“This is also confirmation of the importance that our movement retains in the international arena. Congratulations to Elia and Ally for the election and a wish for good work” then concluded the top executive of Italian cycling. Viviani, born in 1989, thus remains inextricably linked to the world of cycling and track in particular, where he has captured numerous career successes, including Olympic gold in the Omnium in Rio 2016.
