Tegola Napoli, Alex Meret breaks his foot: the games he will miss

Alex Meret stops, right on the eve of Napoli-Inter. As communicated by the Neapolitan club in a terse note issued on its official website, the goalkeeper of the champions of Italy suffered a fracture in his right foot while training with the rest of the team on Friday, the day before the big challenge at Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.

“During the morning session Alex Meret suffered an injury. The Azzurri goalkeeper underwent instrumental examinations at the Pineta Grande Hospital that showed a fracture of the second metatarsal of his right foot”, Napoli announced in the brief statement that appeared Friday on the company website.

A big trouble for Antonio Conte, who will have to give up Meret for at least a month. His place will be taken between the posts of the Azzurri team by Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, who will then be called upon against big rival Inter, but also against Lecce, Como, Bologna and Atalanta in Serie A, as well as in Champions League matches against Eintracht Frankfurt and Qarabag. Goal: to return on Nov. 30 at the Olimpico against Roma.

The intensity of the physical problem, however, remains to be determined, which could also alter the recovery time. Meret will have to undergo further checks to determine whether the fracture in his foot is decomposed. If so, surgery may be necessary, which would make his time off the field even longer. But if this is the case, his return could not take place before the Italian Super Cup, and then even in December well into the future.
