Virtus Bologna’s clean win in Trento

Virtus Olidata Bologna won its fifth LBA Unipol game in front of 4,000 spectators at the BTS Arena. After a balanced first quarter, the Bologna lineup takes the lead in the second period, reaching double digits. Trento tried to come back in the second half, but Virtus was precise and lucid in handling every comeback attempt. The final score reads 83-102 for Bologna. Saliou Niang is awarded MVP of the game with 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for 22 rating, while the top scorer is Morgan with 17 points. For the Eagle, the best is Jakimovski, author of 12 points and 6 rebounds. The bianconeri will return to the court on Tuesday for Round 5 of the EuroCup, when they face Lietkabelis Panevėžys.

Jones opens the scoring, then Trento recovers the ball and Jogela scores with a nice floater. Steward makes the 7-0 triple. Vildoza makes 2/2 at the free, Alston hits from the corner and Jallow ties the score. Vildoza again puts the Black Vu’s ahead, but Jogela breaks the 0-10 streak and Mawugbe nails the new HCL lead. Alston answers with a triple, Jones from the line ties it at 13. Vildoza and Jallow find the basket underhand, while Alston in the low post signs the Bolognese +6. Jones makes no mistake from the lunette, Bayehe scores a big basket in the low post but Diouf retaliates in the same coin. Jakimovski underhand brings the Eagle back to -2. Diouf also makes from mid-range, Steward scores on penetration and Bayehe from the arc puts the HCLers back ahead. But right at the buzzer Edwards posts the 24-26 triple.

Jakimovski scores from the lunette, Saliou Niang backs two points and Jogela immediately retaliates. Morgan makes 2/2 at the free, Diarra scores with a nice half-hook but Bayehe responds with a huge dunk, igniting the 4,000 at the BTS Arena. Pajola finds the triple, then Forray with a floater brings the HCLers closer. Pajola makes 2/2 from the lunette and Hackett signs the maximum Virtus lead at 32-39. Mawugbe nails it hard, but again Saliou Niang scores on tap-in. Mawugbe dunks the -6, Hackett makes 2/2 from the lunette and Edwards signs the 41-52 triple, forcing Cancellieri to a new timeout. Vildoza scores again at the free, then Cheickh Niang dunks and Jallow hits from 6.75. The first half ends 43-57.

Edwards’ triple opens the restart, Bayehe makes 2/2 at the lunette and Jogela penetrates to the iron. Edwards again, from the arc, brings the Black Vu’s to +16. Diouf makes two free throws and shortly after that he puts two more points on the scoreboard. Aldridge hits from three, but Alston immediately responds; with another Aldridge basket, the score says 53-70. Bayehe scores on a fadeaway, Aldridge sinks a big triple, but Morgan breaks the Bolognese partial first in the backdoor and then with a nice fadeaway shot. Saliou Niang makes 2/2 from the lunette and Bologna goes back to +18. Jakimovski finds the half-hook, Forray scores on floater, but again Saliou Niang answers for Virtus. The third quarter ends 62-78.

Jakimovski scores two points to open the last 10 minutes but Morgan scores a big triple, Forray retaliates, then Morgan scores by getting fouled for 67-84. Morgan scores two points taking advantage of the backboard and then signs from the arc for 67-89, cancellieri calls timeout. Steward scores two but Saliou Niang retaliates, Steward scores from the corner and Bayehe scores 74-91, Ivanovic timeout. Edwards scores an incredible triple Diarra scores on Vildoza’s assist, Jakimovski’s triple. The finale rewards Virtus Bologna 83-102.
