Yann Bisseck was not sent off during Verona-Inter for a “last man” foul that has infuriated the Bentegodi crowd and even the Gialloblù coach Paolo Zanetti, but the refereeing world joins in the judgment of the ’episode by affirming that referee Doveri&#8217s decision was correct. The reason is the overcoming of the concept of “last man” in favor of that of DOGSO (“Deny an Obvious Goal-Scoring Opportunity” i.e., the “clear goal-scoring opportunity”), as also confirmed by Luca Marelli after Gianpaolo Calvarese.

“It&#8220s useless to analyze the freeze frame, because Bisseck–s foul is not expulsion worthy,– said Marelli. What needs to be analyzed is the dynamics of the action, in which the ball can be seen going quickly toward the right side of the field. You can clearly see that the ball is heading towards the outside. It runs very far from the center of the field, moreover approaching toward Sucic. For the red card there is certainly a parameter missing”.

“From the first still image, it appears that Bisseck’s foul is red card worthy – had stated earlier Calvarese -. However, the second shot confirms the fact that the ball is moving toward the sideline and toward another Inter player, Sucic. So Doveri’s decision to caution Bisseck is sustainable”.

In the post-match press conference in Verona, Zanetti did not hide about the’incident involving Bisseck: “Talking about it is difficult. The ball goes in a lateral direction and not straight to the’area. However, Giovane, with the speed he has, a ball like that can go and retrieve it and then go into the goal. It was an extremely dangerous situation. But it was, we also had a colossal chance with Orban who hit the post. I am the same proud of the team”.
