Madison Keys steps aside: no Rybakina

Having arrived rather out of shape in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, for the WTA Finals, Madison Keys will not complete the group stage.
The U.S. player, soundly defeated by Iga Swiatek (6-1, 6-2) in her debut match, then defeated by Amanda Anisimova on Monday despite leading by a set and a break (4-6, 6-3, 6-2), forfeited her third match, scheduled for Wednesday, due to a viral infection.
This year’s Australian Open champion was to face Elena Rybakina, who had already secured the top spot in the group with her two wins over Anisimova and Swiatek.
In her place was room for Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova, the second reserve for this tournament behind Mirra Andreeva, who was already engaged in doubles with compatriot Diana Shnaider and preferred not to try her hand at this singles match.
