The winter market lights up with a new duel between Roma and Juventus. At the center of the plot is Jhon Lucumí, a Bologna defender who ended up in the sights of both clubs. But now it is Roma that wants to burn the competition and play ahead to bring back a negotiation already touched in the summer.

The Colombian center-back, 25, had long been followed by the Giallorossi club in recent months. Then everything had stalled: Roma had decided not to pay the rescission clause demanded by Bologna, momentarily dropping interest. But the player’s rising performance and the evolution of the contract situation brought him back to the center of the market.

In the meantime, pressure from Juventus has arrived, with Luciano Spalletti pointing to Lucumí as the first defensive reinforcement for January. The Juventus coach, who nonetheless appreciated the zero goals conceded in the derby with Torino, wants a graft in the backline, and considers the Colombian perfect for reliability, experience in Serie A, and potential for growth.

The Colombian is the perfect fit.

And this is where Roma changes pace. Faced with the risk of losing an already known target, the Giallorossi management would be considering an immediate move to outbid Juve and close the deal before the official opening of the market. No clause to pay, but a convincing offer to be built quickly, taking advantage of the good relations with Bologna and the previous knowledge of the profile.

For both teams, the goal is clear: to strengthen the defense without wasting time. Juventus is banking on Spalletti’s will and quick maneuvering. Roma, on the other hand, plays on timing and anticipation. The duel is open, and Lucumí is at the center of the contention. But also watch out for Premier League clubs that could turn the tables…
