Papiss Cissé stirs and scores 7 goals at 40'years old

More than one former Premier League star, rather than hang up his cleats, has decided to continue his career at a much lower level. Such is the case with Papiss Cissé (40), who scored seven goals on Sunday wearing the shirt of the veteran team of Wythenshawe Football Club, a small suburban Manchester club whose first team plays in the eighth division. For the former Newcastle man, the tug-of-war toward the unfortunate South Liverpool goal began after he missed a penalty: an episode that evidently stymied him.
Cissé is not the’only former professional to be part of this group of old boys still having fun. Others include former Leicester and Liverpool man Emile Heskey (47), Joleon Lescott (43), Nedum Onuoha (38), Stephen Ireland (39), Maynor Figueroa (42), Danny Drinkwater and Oumar Niasse, the youngest of the group (35 each).
Not everyone always finds a place in the starting eleven: former Swansea City striker and Ecuadorian national team member Jefferson Montero (36 years old, 64 appearances, 10 goals with the South American selection) started Sunday’s game from the bench.
The Wythenshawe Football Club members have collected a total of 1,867 Premier League appearances: it is no coincidence that against South Liverpool they won 13-0.
