Salvatore Garritano, winner in the ranks of Torino of the historic 1975-1976 Scudetto, still the last of the Granata and the first and only one after the Superga tragedy, has died at 69 in Cosenza, his hometown, struck down by leukemia.

Born Dec. 23, 1955, a forward, Garritano had made his Serie A debut in 1974 with Ternana, scoring three goals in 18 appearances. In 1975 he moved to Torino as a backup to the “goal twins” Francesco Graziani and Paolo Pulici, and in the Scudetto season he totaled 5 appearances and one goal (at AC Milan).

He remained in the granata for the next two seasons as well, but the starting spot was always barred to him and he put together 15 appearances and 1 goal. He then militated for two seasons at Atalanta, one in A and one in B, and in 1980-1981 he was at Bologna, totaling 27 appearances and 6 goals.

His career then continued in the minor categories. He played 10 times scoring 4 goals with Italy Under 21 and once, with one goal, with the Under 23.
