American football lands in Europe: like the NBA, the U.S. professional basketball league, the NFL marks a historic milestone on the Old Continent.

On Sunday, in fact, it will be the Santiago Bernabeu, the “home” of Real Madrid recently renovated with futuristic facilities to host any kind of show, that will serve as the playing field for an American football regular season game, in which the Miami Dolphins and Washington Commanders will face off.

This is one of the stops on the NFL’s European tour, which also includes London, Frankfurt and Dublin. After controversy over La Liga’s decision to have a game played in Miami, later rescinded due to protests, now the Spanish capital is eagerly preparing to host an uncommon sport.

“The Dolphins represent Miami’s Hispanic community, and they are the perfect ambassadors to bring the sport to Spain”, Javi Amaro, a Spanish-born Nfl player, tells Marca. “It’s an intense sport, which the fans in Madrid will surely enjoy””
