Bolelli/Vavassori fall at their finest: final blown at ATP Finals

Simone Bolleli and Andrea Vavassori faded at the very best at the ATP Finals. The Italian pair, seventh seed in the seedings, surrendered to the Harri Heliovaara/Henry Patten duo, second seeded favorites, who imposed with a score of 6-4 6-3 after an hour and 17 minutes of play.

An uphill start for the Azzurri, who lost serve as early as in the third game with a forehand error in recovery by Bolelli. On the other side, the Finn and the Brit conceded crumbs on serve and kept the break lead until the final 6-4.

In the second set it is still the third game that dooms the Bolognese and the Turinese: at the third useful opportunity Heliovaara/Patten get the break. Bolelli/Vavassori win a counter-break ball in the sixth game but Patten places a providential ace. The Anglo-Finnish duo is also flawless in the last two service turnovers and files the case on the second match point.

Bolelli and Vavassori thus bid farewell to Turin having nevertheless achieved their best ever result at the ATP Finals. For the Azzurri, however, the season is not over yet: next week, in fact, there will be the Davis Cup match against Austria, scheduled for Wednesday, November 19, at 4 p.m.
