First the bike ran out of gas and the failure to qualify for Q2, then an underwhelming Sprint, closed well away from the points zone. Pecco Bagnaia’s Saturday in Valencia, and in general for the official Ducati team, is one to forget quickly but Davide Tardozzi wanted to clarify some points first, defining the responsibilities of what happened.

“This morning we were wrong – admitted Tardozzi, at the microphones of Sky Sport, talking about the’episode that affected Q1 -. Pecco was understanding, he also said that on other occasions he made mistakes. The fact is that the’mistake we made prevented us from starting further ahead, taking away any chance for the Sprint Race”.

The team manager of the Borgo Panigale-based Rossa then commented on Bagnaia’s 14th place in the afternoon’s short race, which was won by Alex Marquez: “We thought he could finish further ahead, but on this type of track, where you struggle to overtake, starting behind less fast riders is a big disadvantage”.

Finally, the doubt related to the race commissioners’ verification of Bagnaia’s own behavior in Q1, when he ran out of gasoline, was clarified: “They called him back to understand why he had not used the escape route immediately – said Tardozzi -, he explained that with the choice to move to the gravel he did not want to create problems for the other bikes and so it was. The bike then was taken away immediately, there will be no penalty”.
