Franco Foda’s Kosovo failed in the science fiction feat of beating Switzerland by six goals. Which in Pristina controlled the match, which ended 1-1, deserving qualification for the world championships to be staged in North America next year.

The balance, on Tuesday’s rainy evening, was broken in the 47th minute, when Vargas beat Muric with his left-footed shot and put the Swiss into the lead. However, in the 74th minute Muslija found 1-1 with a beautiful shot from outside that surprised Kobel.

For Switzerland, now coached by Murat Yakin, this is the sixth qualification in a row for the World Cup.

Italy, as it is known, missed two consecutive World Cups and will have to struggle in the play-offs. As will Kosovo.
