Inter Milan soccer market: Marko Arnautovic was Nerazzurri until last June 2025, only to be released and start again from Red Star. Yet, according to his own words, he would be considering retirement ’for years”. Now, with his Austria qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, the’option appears likely to slip again. Certainly, his statements could spark more than one discussion.

“Everyone in the national team is younger than me, but they are my family. And I have been arguing for years with my wife, according to her I can&#8217t take it anymore and I should quit. But there&#8217s not even a need for me to go on the field anymore. It is enough for me to be together with my boys”, Arnautovic told ‘ServusTV’. Words far too harsh, taking into account the fact that in Austria&#8217s qualification towards the 2026 World Cup he played seven games and scored eight goals (although four of them came against only San Marino).

However, there remains that sibylline statement about the “discussions for years” going on with his wife about his possible retirement. It is to be understood how real were the reflections of Arnautovic, who on the one hand is “only” 36 years old, but on the other has certainly proved to be a non-positive factor in the fortunes of Inter in his last Nerazzurri spell. The mistakes against Lazio in the penultimate day of the 2024-2025 Serie A come to mind in particular. A match that, in retrospect, turned out to be decisive in Napoli winning the Scudetto.

Austria&#8217s post-World Cup 2026 qualification words, moreover, contradict the behavior adopted by Arnautovic over the summer. Indeed, after being released on a zero-parameter basis by Inter Milan, the forward has never stopped training on his own on the strength of Red Star’s interest in him. The’idea that he has, however, dressed the Nerazzurri jersey having already in mind a possible retirement could take more than a few hours of sleep away from the Biscione fans.
